Presidential Firsts and Not-so-Firsts

Clinton was the first President in history to...

...have been investigated by an independent counsel continuously from the very first day he took office.

...have been caught and publicly exposed (forgive the choice of words) committing sexual acts in the White House with someone other than his wife.

...publicly admit to lying to the American voters as a group.

...publicly admit to withholding information when giving testimony under oath (the jury is still out, but this still sounds like a crime to me).

Clinton was not the first President in history to...

...claim that the upturn in the economy has been solely and completely due to the actions of his administration and his party.

...get caught trying to cover up his actions.

...get caught trying to cover up the cover-up of his actions.

...accuse everyone else but himself of causing his troubles.

...play the shell game, trying to divert the public's attention from a scandal to a 'greater good' issue (terrorism).

...let his hubris (and apparently pretty poor advisors) get in the way of common sense.

...trample upon the trust, confidence and mandate of the American public and upon the Oath of Office.

Clinton could be the first President to...

...be impeached and removed from office as a result.

...have used a cigar for other than smoking within the corridors of power.

...need a dry-cleaner on call 24 hours a day.

...need a lawyer with him at all times.

...be called Wee Willie, short for Pee Wee Willie.
